It is extremely difficult for App store game developers to come up with great games. And that is because a great game means a great concept, followed by great graphics, sounds and game play. Angry Mob Games’ newly released game, Muffin Knight manages to combine the above and put it all in a nice, refreshing mix.
While the graphics are completely different, Muffin Knight is essentially a copy of Super Crate Box by Vlambeer. The game finds you in the skin of a young knight who has to collect the muffins he’s lost. This is easier said than done though, as the muffins keep popping up, and enemies keep raining down on the platformer styled levels.
The game’s controls are as simple as they can be. You’ve got the left/right buttons, and a jump and shoot button on the right side of the screen. As you run/jump around collecting the muffins, you’ll be killing endless waves of incoming enemies, in different, innovative ways.
Now this is where the game gets fun. Each time you collect a muffin, you are automatically changed into something else. It could be a ninja, a rainbow mine pooping unicorn, a claw attacking yeti, a banana-throwing monkey, a rifle using dwarf, etc. There’s no way to tell what you’ll turn into, as it is completely random. However, you can actually use the experience points that you gain from the kills you make to upgrade each character you turn into. There’s no guarantee how much it would help, since you can’t tell what you’ll turn into, so instead of focusing on just one, it’s best to spread your points out evenly.
Although there are only a few levels, the existing ones are extremely fun, with bright, animated graphics, great looking effects, and sounds. As you keep playing you unlock more characters to turn into, which means more fun, as each character has a different type of attack that you need to get used to.
